About the Pygmies
In the depths of the Congolese rain forest lays a strange tribe of short red men, they’re called pygmies. A solitary jungle tribe, they rely on the land, hunting, fishing, and on a small scale, they farm goats and wheat. One of their most notable features is their average height is 4 feet 11 inches. Due to this, they have become famous for the appearance of short reddish men in the jungle.
Their costumes include very little clothing, as a result of their hot, humid environment. It is also customary for the men to file their teeth to look like shark teeth. The way their families work is more of a darwinistic way of doing things, the strongest male has the most female mates. Traditional music among the Pygmies is vocal and rich in harmonies. Pygmies are hunters and gatherers, and Pygmy songs describe life, hunting, and survival. Due to the fact that they follow no government and don’t use any currency, they have been evicted from their land several times. Recently, they are under protection under the Congolese Park Act that gives them full access to the larger than life national parks.
The best way to preserve their way of life is to leave them alone. They have been living a simple life style since the beginning of time. It’s been proven time and time again, that trying to modernize native tribes kills original culture and is bad for those who are being colonized.
